Derby skatepark project history...

People who have been skating a few years in Derby may remember this:
In towards the end of 2007 we started pushing for a skatepark in Derby with a few Derby City Council member - and after meeting with Sports Development and Parks departments we needed to show them that Derby would love and use a proper, good size skatepark.

In February 2008 we put this video together and it was played for a few months on the Derby Big Screen and also we pushed the campaign everywhere, and Sidewalk helped us.

Check the video below if you didn't see it..

Here's the news article on the Hooked site - from the time it was published... amazing to see the date this all started. Thanks to everyone's input we managed to get over 300 responses to questionnaires which once popped into statistics we could use (in a pitch document) we were able to start the slow process of getting a skatepark.

It's finally happening, phew.

Derby skatepark update

Final plans are here, and it's going to be amazing. Some great stuff in here which is unique to Derby and definitely worth coming to session. Progress from today is a concrete smoothness test and some progress reporting. Have a look.

Walking around the earmarked bowl area

Work

Standing area around bowl

Laying the first area of concrete, the area which we'll approve as not to be too slippy or rough

Trowelling / smoothing machine is on it

Crazy dance moves and trowelling

Hand finishing

The site is pretty big... can't wait until May!

The base of the park is starting to take shape, and the path is started too. It's coming!

Looks like the hardcore is down, it's flat too

Getting a feeling of the size

Looks big

The path will be there

Cornerstone

There will be some good all round filming angles from these banks when it's done that's for sure. We'll keep you posted!

Loughborough Lurking - New Concrete

We recently checked out the fairly new Loughbourough park. Nice little park with some different features, butthe location isn't amazing... bang in the middle of a council estate so a lot of lurkers kick footballs around etc... But check the awesome bowl above.
Have a look, definitely worth a trip!

Big rail, banks with great euro gap (bigger than Mansfield but a touch smaller than Chesterfield)

Mellow hip... although this area becomes a bit of a hang out zone for everyone heading to the left of this shot area (see below)

A mellow bank with rail at the top and a quarter. There's a cool manny pad area there too, small one end and deep the other, with a grindable edge / quarter on the side.

The view back to the mellow hip...

Small end of the manny pad... Chevy models to show scale...

Awesome transitions and wallrides

Checking out Josh Price's tricks

Rad Dad flies the nest

As most people know, Wayne 'Rad Dad' Juffs is no longer working as part of Hooked, and hasn't been for the last few months. Since long before Christmas Wayne's been working hard on his graffiti blog project, 'The Rad Dad Collective', and just after Christmas Hooked and Wayne parted ways to enable him to push his blog to higher levels.

Good luck with the project Rad Dad. Go and say hello on his blog The Rad Dad Collective.
