"Derby Spots Review, Classics"

R.I.P. "STORM"

Storm Skate Park started in 1998.
With the Skateboarding and BMX scenes growing, and heroes like Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen and Dave Mirra, these alternative sports were destined to grow. Storm was a revolution of its time, with a mega vert ramp,(legend has it that Jamie Bestwick may have started pumping his first vert here) and numerous minis, ledges and rails, are what memories of the Park are made of for hundreds of visitors.
Before it's demise in 2005, it hosted a BMX event called the Backyard Jam 04, but the main street course and ramps were falling into disrepair. Whether it was lack of money or a natural regression of the Park we may never know, but what we do know is it will go down in history as a monument to indoor Super Parks of its time.

Revisiting Storm after hearing reports of it being pulled down, I was pleasantly surprised to find the building still standing as a ghostly reminder of the good old days when Derby had national importance in the Skate scene in Britain.

Lets hope those days return soon!!

The Original Hooked T..

One of the original t shirts makes an occasional appearance at venues around the country, catching up with some old mates and some new ones. People like Ben Grove, Frank Stevens, Harry Bastard and Ben Raemers to name just a few, have put their John Dow on its now scruffy carcass. Beer from Ronnie Calow, a Tequila Sunrise of Ben Cundall adorns it's threads, adding to its distinguished character.
On it's quest for more signatures, it will make a guest appearance at the Blue Dog, 16th of August, to attend the "Evening Hangover" Skate Jam, It hopes to see you there!

Are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet, are we...

Its that time of year again. Stoke seems to be an annual thing, and with some of these young rippers spending most of their time at Stoke, its no surprise that they reached into their backpacks and pull out some solid tricks...
