Restricted Access!

If you're heading south bound in the next week or so, don't be disappointed if you can't get near at Southbank in London.

Robin Rhode, an artist based at The Hayward, Southbank Centre, a local art centre, is using the skate area as part of his latest installation. There is more information about his current project by clicking here.

Only the walls will be transformed, so the space will be kept the same. Only thing to worry about is that you won't be able to get into the area on Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 1st October, then partial access on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October.

Might be worth a viewing I reckon.

Spots Review...Update

The Demise of the Petrol Station

Looks like the Petrol Station's on its last legs. demolition signs litter the spot, like a bad case of herpes, and the tidy up workers have been busy flat packing the site(I thought I saw one wearing an Ikea sweat shirt) in preparation for the dozers.
May have to take up hitchhiking as a second hobby at this rate.

The Station back in the day.

Another reminder to make the most of what you've got while its there!

A salute goes out to the Petrol Station, thanks for the good times... Keep Smiling Folks!!

Spray..."Between the Lines"...Update

" Wake Up"
Dave the Chimp Designs for Vans

After doing a feature on the Chimp a few weeks ago, we at Hooked have been keeping a look out for his work. News has just come in that due to his long time connections with skateboarding, Vans has commissioned a skate shoe.

His own quirky style is splashed all over this white leather and canvas shoe.
Oh yeh, they still retain the usual waffle complement!

Slick!

Adam Neate
Leaving His Work on the Streets

Living in London Adam spends his spare time skateboarding and painting.
Dubbed as the English Picasso, his technique is very distinctive, and just recently some of his work has been sold for more than £30.000.

However the unusual thing about Adam is how he gained recognition!

After a few years of painting, his house became full, and the usual disposal of his art, giving it away to friends and family, was exhausted. Even charity shops refused to accept it. So reluctantly he left his work on the street to be collected for rubbish. Hours later, after passing his pile of paintings still awaiting collection, he realized a lot had gone missing.
This gave him an idea...  leave some of his stuff on the streets!

Most of his art is now done on recycled cardboard, so keep an eye out if ever you are in the Smoke, you maybe lucky enough to take home an Adam Neate original... FREE.

6 Tricks on the Sabbath: School benches

Session at the benches went down with the amazing weekend weather. Recovering two badly rolled ankles, we managed to get a couple of tricks for the feature. Have a look, see if you can outdo us! Skating by Dave Ford.

Crip weather yeah?

Hooked wins Derby sports award for skateboarding

Well well well what a turn out for the books. Firstly, a massive thanks to everyone who supports Hooked and the skate scene, because people are starting to recognise the stuff we're doing, and the work we're doing to get Derby a skatepark. It's amazing that skateboarding has been recognised as a creative and individual activity in Derby city, and this has led us to win the club of the year at the Derby Sports Awards ceremony.

This is what you get for being nominated

Proper crystal trophy... Kate, Wayne, Dave & Phil

So that's good news. We're going to be making a video about what we've been up to in terms of organising jams, doing sessions, trick tips and competitions for the Derby scene. If you want to be in it -  skating - get in touch. It will be played in next years award ceremony to show all the normal sports folk what skateboarding is about.

Cheers everyone who nominated and voted for Hooked.

Derby Spots Review: School benches

If you like grinds, slides and lines, this spot is a little bit of heaven. Imagine a quiet retreat with a garden, flowers - even a little allotment... with a tarmac floor and a line of four evenly spaced knee high benches. Crip.

Perfect arc of benches... bust a trick on each one if your quick

The benches are round on the edges - but made of something slick and smooth

Skatable from both sides

Interesting pop - manny - pop combos in here - with varying manny distances

This is a great place to skate with a small group of pals with stuff to do for people who enjoy the flat, manny tricks and grinds - but don't expect anything to throw a hammer down.
Unfortunatley we can't disclose the location of this sweet hideaway on this blog, but chances are if you lurk around Derby you've already skated it!

Happy hunting!
